Flic Debuts Independent Matter Controller, Making Flic Twist the World’s First Rotational Dial for Matter at IFA 2024

Berlin, Germany – September 6, 2024 – Flic, a pioneer in the smart home industry, proudly announces the official release of its Matter Controller at IFA 2024. With this groundbreaking launch, Flic becomes the world’s first company to introduce a rotational device-the Flic Twist-capable of controlling Matter-certified smart home devices.

Matter, the new industry-unifying standard, is designed to ensure seamless interoperability between smart home products across different brands. Flic has defied expectations by developing a fully-fledged Matter Controller, positioning its products to control an extensive ecosystem of Matter-compatible devices in ways previously unimagined. Until now, only tech giants like Apple, Google, and Samsung have successfully launched Matter Controllers.

Flic Twist: A New Era of Smart Home Interaction

The Flic Twist is a one-of-a-kind smart home controller, standing out for its simplicity, versatility, and intuitive design. Unlike any other device on the market, it allows users to effortlessly rotate the dial to control a wide range of functions wirelessly-from adjusting lighting colors, brightness, and temperature to modifying audio volume, operating blinds, and managing other smart home systems.

“Developing a Matter Controller instead of opting for standard Matter integration was an ambitious challenge,” said Oskar Öberg, CTO of Flic. “But we recognized it as a crucial step in delivering unparalleled control to our users. The Flic Twist embodies our commitment to innovation and highlights Matter’s transformative potential in how we interact with our living spaces.”

Control Any Matter-Enabled Device with Full Privacy-No Big Tech Needed

This release empowers users to integrate third-party Matter products into the Flic App and control them with Flic devices-without relying on Apple, Google, Samsung, or any other big tech ecosystems. Unlike many competing solutions, Flic’s Matter Controller operates locally via a Flic Hub-ensuring full privacy without the need for cloud synchronization.

A Seamless Experience with the Flic Hub

To guarantee compatibility with Matter devices, the Flic Twist and Flic Buttons pair seamlessly with the Flic Hub. For controlling Matter-over-Thread devices, a separate Thread Border Router is required. Together, the Flic Twist and Flic Hub create custom smart home experiences that are intuitive, responsive, and personalized-setting a new benchmark in smart home control.

Full Backward Compatibility

Unlike many other Matter-related announcements, where only new or upcoming products are Matter-compatible, Flic ensures that all previous devices can integrate with the Matter ecosystem, provided they are connected to any generation of Flic Hubs-including products dating back to 2015. This commitment to backward compatibility reflects Flic’s sustainability ethos: ensuring that every Flic product remains usable for as long as possible.
